Bokenkotter’s book is good for the most part, but there are some questionable elements when he gets to the 20th century and starts talking about women’s ordination, and all the hot-button moral issues (contraceptions, abortion, etc.).

A Concise History of the Catholic Church is a slight misnomer with a book of over pages with small type (thank God for the Kindle edition where I could enlarge the type face to a more comfortable size).
